There’s a unique kind of magic that happens when creative worlds collide, when two visions, two disciplines, two minds intersect to form something entirely new. That magic is exactly what’s happening right now as I unveil the official front cover design for my upcoming book, Writer’s Block: The Next Chapter.
This stunning abstract artwork, expressive, emotional, and completely captivating, will serve as the face of the next installment in my ongoing literary journey. And it’s all thanks to the incredible talent and vision of @brookebenham_art, whose work continues to push the boundaries of texture, color, and imagination.
From the moment Brooke and I began talking about this project, there was an energy. A shared excitement. A mutual understanding that this wasn’t just about creating a “pretty” cover, it was about visually expressing what Writer’s Block stands for: chaos and clarity, frustration and flow, destruction and creation. It’s about the unpredictable journey of writing and the emotions, raw and real, that come with it.
The piece itself radiates those themes. You can almost feel the turbulence in the streaks of burnt orange and mustard gold that slash through the canvas. The cool sweep of blue down the center suggests a sense of surrender, perhaps even healing, while the ghostly whites and soft pastels that whisper across the bottom hint at fragility and vulnerability, both essential elements in the process of storytelling.
There’s something deeply human about the piece. It doesn’t try to be perfect, and neither does writing. Brooke’s technique with oil pastels and charcoal gives it that raw, tactile feel that I absolutely love. It’s a representation of the mind unraveling and reforming, and in that way, it’s not just a visual; it’s a narrative in itself.
Brooke (@brookebenham_art on Instagram) has been an amazing creative partner to work with. Her approach to art is intuitive, bold, and refreshingly honest. She brings the same heart to her canvas that I try to bring to the page, and that’s made this collaboration feel less like work and more like a shared adventure. We’ve had great conversations about the nature of art and storytelling, about how we both wrestle with our creative blocks, and how those blocks often turn out to be the very things that lead us to our best work.
What started as a simple idea to bring an abstract piece to life for a book cover has grown into something far more powerful: a celebration of creative vulnerability and resilience. Brooke’s artwork doesn’t just complement the book. It speaks with it. I couldn’t be more thrilled to feature her as part of this next chapter.
We can’t wait to share more in the coming weeks, snippets from the book, behind-the-scenes details from Brooke’s creative process, and maybe even a special launch event where we talk about how this whole project came to life.
Be sure to follow Brooke on Instagram @brookebenham_art and stay tuned right here for updates on Writer’s Block: The Next Chapter. Whether you’re a writer, an artist, or just someone who appreciates the beautiful mess of creativity, I think you’ll find a little piece of yourself in this cover and in the story inside.
Let’s turn the page together.
